What's in Promensil?
Each tablet of Promensil is standardized to contain a total of 40 mg of four standardized isoflavones, genistein, daidzein, formononetin and biochanin sourced from red clover (Trifolium pratense). The biologically active ingredients are naturally occurring plant compounds, which are NOT chemically synthesized.
Promensil is free from sugar, yeast, milk derivatives, wheat and corn starch, gluten, preservatives, artificial colors and flavors.
How does Promensil work?
Isoflavones are phytoestrogens, which literally means, plant estrogens. Isoflavones are similar in chemical structure to the body's own estrogen, and when consumed in adequate amounts they are able to mimic some of the effects of estrogen to assist with maintaining health and well being. Isoflavones however are weaker than our natural estrogen, and are selective in their action in the body. Isoflavones supplement the needs of women over 45 when levels of hormones are declining.
When will I see a difference?
While this can vary with the individual, most women notice relief from symptoms within 2-5 weeks. The response may vary with the individual. If you have had absolutely no change in your well being after six weeks then you should contact your doctor or call Novogen, as we may be able to suggest ways to improve the efficacy of Promensil for you.
How to take Promensil
One Promensil tablet per day is sufficient for most women to help manage the symptoms of menopause naturally, however 2 tablets per day may be taken for severe symptoms. To help relieve daytime symptoms, take Promensil with breakfast. If night time symptoms are worse, take Promensil with the evening meal.
Antibiotics may disrupt your gut flora and hence reduce the absorption of Promensil via the gut. Eating yogurt may help to re-establish your gut flora and improve the absorption of Promensil. H2 antagonists such as Zantac and Tazac as well as proton pump inhibitors such as Somac, Zoton and Nexium may also reduce the uptake of Promensil.
If you are currently taking the Oral Contraceptive Pill or Hormone Therapy, it is recommended that you consult your healthcare professional before taking any dietary supplement.
Can I use Promensil if I'm still getting regular monthly periods?
Yes. Women can take Promensil while they are still menstruating, in the time leading up to menopause. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding however should not take Promensil without first consulting a doctor.
What is the difference between red clover products and between red clover and soy isoflavones?
Not all red clover products are the same. The leaves of the plant contain the highest amount of isoflavones. Red clover blossoms contain little or no isoflavones so products such as red clover tea will not provide any measurable isoflavone levels.
Red clover and soy are both legumes and belong to the same family of plants. The main difference is that red clover contains four active isoflavones whereas soy only has two. The extra two found in red clover are commonly found in other legumes such as chick peas and lentils.
When should I change from Promensil to Promensil Post-Menopause?
You are considered post-menopausal when you have not had a menstrual period for 12 months or more. It is at that time that you may consider swapping from Promensil to Promensil Post-Menopause.
Do I need to take a calcium supplement as well as Promensil Post-Menopause?
Each tablet of Promensil Post-Menopause contains 500mg of Calcium. The recommended daily intake of Calcium for post-menopausal women is 1000-1200mg per day. Taking Promensil Post-Menopause in conjunction with a calcium rich diet should enable you to obtain your daily calcium needs. For example, each dairy serve contains approximately 200-250mg of calcium, so eating 2 serves of dairy, a healthy diet of fruit and vegetables, and some fish, you should be receiving your 1000mg of daily calcium allowance. If you do not obtain sufficient calcium from the diet, you can take additional calcium with Promensil Post-Menopause.
